I first heard about the award winning sensory classes online whilst I was searching for baby classes for my newborn. Whilst I was searching for classes I assumed as bubba was so young I would most probably only find a class that was more along the lines of a social tea morning for new mums to meet and babies to socialise. As much as this is fine and gets mum and baby out the house I am glad I came across Baby Sensory as it is important to help baby with all their seneses from a young age and encourage them to remember items, routines, sounds, lights and the list goes on. This is a perfect class for mums to socialise and meet other mums and for babies to meet other babies and I would highly reccomend this class which is also available in terms/courses. Not only is it a lovely way to meet new people and educate the babies fom a young age but it is also infromative for the parents. With each week focusing on a different theme there is always something new to learn. I will be writing a weekly blog on my experience to encourage as many mums as possible to join the group as it really is worth the trip to the class and the bubbas love it.

This weeks class was PAINTING. We were soooooooooo excited!

Before I begin just a reminder that you can purchase some of the props and music from the Baby Sensory. I will add a link to the bottom of this blog.

We are now getting a little routine before the class and it is working perfectly and seems to let bubba enjoy every moment of the class. The times of the class is perfect as we nap before the class and in the car on the way. We now arrive 15 mins early to have a quick feed top up before we start the class. Although others use this time to have a play on the toys and playmats before the class begins and have a little chat with the other mums.
We were very excited about todays class as it was painting day plus my dad came along to see my bubba in the class...and we had so much fun. I made mini overalls for todays class out of an old white baby grow and cut the feet out so we could use hands and feet to paint but keep the rest of the mess under control. We started with the weekly 'Say Hello' song. This is a beautiful little song using sign language. Using sign language captures the attention of the babies and gradually over time they should start assosicating the sounds and movements together. For now it is a gentle happy song to start the class. This song is later used to calm the baby after the painting but I will come back to that.
The lovely Carmen then spoke about the importance of music and how it can help the babies development. I love my baby listening to classical music I find very theroputic for myself so we now play music during changing and bath time and she really likes it and keeps her in a relaxed mood.

The next activity was musical instruments. Each mummy/daddy and nana/papa had to hold a small instruments and the babies were encouraged to hold the small rattle/bell and to make as much noise as possible. I really rate teaching babies the importance of music from a young age as my personal opinion is music and the arts is a beautiful way of children and adults expressing themsleves. It is clear that there are very few babies in this class that are shy of making a noise as the room was filled with different sounds and the babies were having a brilliant time. My bubba is definitely is getting more confident holding the rattles and bells and moving her arms to make sounds. I am a proud mummy with the camera when she does something new and this week it was holding the bells and moving her arms to make the noises with a BIG smile on her face! So cute!

Next we were asked to change the babies into their painting outfits...many babies went straight for the paints in their nappies others had vests on either way as long as the babies were having fun it didnt matter what they wore. The whole floor was covered in blue liner and pieces of paper and paper plates were laid out ready for the mini artists to arrive. Everyone started off so discreet just painting one hand and pressing it on the paper to make a print. (mini sponges was a great idea to help apply to babies skin). There were lots of different coloured paint to choose from (paint safe to use and it was gluten, dairy free etc). Then as babies got used to the idea of the paint and the texture they seemed to take matters into their own hands. We had yellow, pink, purple, blue, red and green babies everywhere haha paint was everywhere on noses, ears, mouths, faces, tummies, feet, hair and even all over mums/dads/nanas and papas but everyone looked like they had a great time. We made two beautiful pictures that are now proudly on display at my parents house and one for Daddy's desk at work. After the art masterclass we had 5 mins to get cleaned up ready for the next part of the class.

With almost clean babies we started the next part of the class with different musicial instruments with mini drums and maracas (I need to purchase some of these as my baby loves them so wiill get some for Christmas). Playing in the background was the classical version of a Jungle Book song and lets not forget the famous bubbles which my baby could look at all day. We bought the bubble machine for at home and it is great to use outdoors when it is sunny as the colours are beautiful. Such a brilliant idea to catch the babies attention.

Carmen then got ready for her starring role in the puppet show. All the babies are encouraged to sit around the mini theatre and watch the puppet show. Jack in the Box. The babies were having so much fun with little smiles everywhere. Carmen is so great with the babies and she is brilliant at getting the babies attention during her stage performances.

The final activity before the famous Goodbye Song was a whole floor of lights...we have been practising tummy time and this week my bubba was so fascinated with the colour changing floor I think she forgot she was on her tummy. She grab one of the lights and wouldn't let go (looks like I will have to buy the lights as well haha). The babies really do love the light shows and they are silent looking around the room as the lights change colour creating shadows and shapes etc. It is beautiful to watch and you can get some fab pictures.

Don't worry we still had one last song of the class the beautiful Goodbye Song, this sweet, calming song again using sign is a lovely way to end the class and relaxes babies after their busy class. I really like that every class starts and ends the same but each week the theme changes as well as the toys and activities. I feel like I learn something new every week so I am almost certain the bubbas are too.

My bubba and I love this class and the effort that Carmen goes into to make sure the theme is obvious from the word go. She is fantastic with the babies keeping them entertained from the moment they walk through the door. I can see my bubba progressing each week. At the beginning we would need feeding and maybe a little nap during the class, wasn't keen on tummy time or the lights being turned off for the light show and now she is getting better and better wach week with tummy time, LOVES the lights off and the light show (we even watched the light show whilst she was on her tummy this week) and for the last couple of weeks she hasnt needing feeding or a nap for the whole duration of the class. She really does have so much fun and she is so tired after the class she normally naps on the way home.

I look forward to the weekly class, it is perfect as it does not have to fit in with baby's daily routine as if you need to feed, change nappy, have a walk around to settle baby or even if baby falls asleep that is fine it is about educating yourself as well as baby and as I mentioned above even if you baby isnt watching you I am sure another one is so it is still worth joining in the class. I highly recommend this to all mummies and it is also a lovely way to meet other mums in your area.

That's it for now. Once again a big thank you to Carmen.
